Here is a round up of the biggest stories from the news in Warwick this July.

Alongside a host of planning applications, and a number of high profile council decisions, the last four weeks have seen Nub News cover everything from new businesses opening to local awards.

Community News

Local residents have been gearing up for the start of the new bin collections on August 1. But some households have been put on the back foot with the council falling behind in delivering the new food caddies and recycling bins.

The Commonwealth Games festival site has opened in Market Place.

Whilst the Warwick Folk Festival, Warwick Thai Festival, Smith Street Fair and Beer Festival have also returned following cancellations due to the pandemic over the past two years.

Reusable pint glasses were launched by local businesses looking to reduce waste over the summer.

Development

Detailed plans for 150 new homes at Oakley Grove have been revealed, whilst the new school has been hit by rising building costs.

And reserved matters applications have been approved for 476 houses at the Asps south of Warwick.

The town centre has been hit by weeks of road closures as Warwick prepares for the Commonwealth Games. This has meant that the road furniture has been removed for the road race to take place.

Aldi has revealed that it would like to open a store in Warwick.

A 90 hectare sand a gravel quarry near Warwick has taken a step forward following the approval of the Warwickshire Minerals Plan.

And pictures sent to us by a local resident have shown the work underway at 121 houses being built on a former Warwickshire County Council store.

Business news

A lavender farm which opened this summer has continued to attract visitors from across Warwickshire.

A former jewellers on Jury Street could be turned into a house.

And a new fish shop and gelateria has opened in Heathcote.

Local care provider WCS Care has won national recognition for making work better for its employees.

A Victorian guest house is set to be turned into a large family home.

Meanwhile 15 Warwick eateries have been given five star food hygiene ratings.

A curry house has been nominated in the English Curry Awards.

But the owners of a local mansion house hotel have fallen into administration.

And a Warwick pub has reopened following a fire that destroyed much of its outdoor seating area.

And a pharmacy has reopened following a move to Priory Medical Centre.
