Administrators have been appointed to save a Victorian mansion house hotel just a year after it reopened under new owners.

The company behind the Wroxall Abbey Hotel & Spa, on Birmingham Road, which reopened in June 2021 on the historic estate has admitted defeat having taken over from the previous owners which went into administration in 2020.

Trinity Hotel Ltd has now been placed in the hands of Julien Irving and Mark Boughey of Mazars LLP and Stephen Kenny and Richard Cole of KBL Advisory Ltd who were appointed as joint administrators on Monday (18 July).

The Wroxall Abbey estate can trace its roots back to the mid-12th century but now faces an uncertain future, though the administrators say they are hopeful of finding a buyer.

When Trinity took over the hotel they completely remodelled the interior, turned the downstairs Wrenn Bar into a sports bar and recommissioned the Grade I listed Church of St Leonard on site.

Then managing director Paresh Thakkar - who resigned in December 2021 - told Nub News last year that the hotel was fully booked into 2022.

Plans had also been in place to renovate and reopen the spa.

But a statement from the administrators says the company was negatively impacted by Covid-19, with its incorporation coinciding with the advent of national lockdowns.

"The restrictions applied during this period were particularly difficult for the hospitality industry to manage and the business has suffered as a result," it adds.

Mr Irving said: "We are currently assessing the situation, with a view that the administrators are urgently seeking a buyer for all or part of the company's business and assets.

"We would invite those interested to get in contact with Sarah Bates of KBL Advisory Limited on 0161 637 8100 (Email: [email protected])"
