From housing developers to plans for pubs, Warwick has seen a host of planning applications submitted, approved and refused in 2025.

We have looked back at some of the biggest planning stories from the last 12 months, and the articles which received the most readers.

'Acceptable but not exciting' plans for 150 homes between Warwick and Leamington approved

A housing developer has been given unanimous approval for 150 new homes between Warwick and Leamington Spa, just months after taking over the site.

Miller Homes' application for the development off Harbury Lane was approved by Warwick District Council's planning committee this week, with one councillor describing the scheme as "acceptable" but "not exciting".

The estate - which already has outline permission - will form part of the much wider Oakley Grove development which will ultimately see 900 homes, a secondary school, primary school and country park built.

Plans for new Lidl between Warwick and Leamington move forward

Lidl is planning to move forward with the demolition of a former factory to make way for a new store between Warwick and Leamington.

The supermarket giant has already revealed its plans for Europa House on Heathcote Lane, but is yet to submit a full planning application for the development.

Lidl has however asked Warwick District Council for 'prior approval' to demolish the existing building to make way for the supermarket

Latest bid to keep Warwick gym which opened without permission

2025 has seen the ongoing planning saga around Foundry Gym.

Earlier in the year it was revealed the gym opened without the proper planning permission.

Foundry Gym has submitted a new planning application to Warwick District Council asking for temporary permission to use Horizon House as a gym.

A previous submission to the local council (which was withdrawn) claimed the chain was "misadvised" by a property agent which said it had the proper permission to open.

Step forward for huge park and ride between Warwick and Leamington

Plans to create a major new park and ride between Warwick and Leamington have taken a step forward with council planners signing off on the designs.

The facility had been approved in a major application for 900 new homes, a primary school, local centre and open space, which was called in by the secretary of state and signed off in 2016.

Now developers Taylor Wimpey (Midlands) Ltd and Bloor Homes have seen their designs for the park and ride around Banbury Road and Europa Way approved.

Plans show the site will have a bus lane with space for four buses to stop, and 443 car parking spaces - 21 of which will be disabled, 20 for motorcycles and 50 for EV charging.

Inspector gives green light to convert Warwick showroom into shops following appeal

A planning inspector has given the green light for controversial plans to turn a former Warwick car showroom into shops, after the application was originally refused by councillors.

Warwick District Council's planning committee threw out the application from Warwickshire Partnership, at the third attempt earlier this year.

The application was refused due to a perceived lack of parking and the impact this would have on the neighbouring roads.

But now the developer has ultimately been granted planning permission after submitting an appeal to the planning inspectorate.

Plans for 400 homes on the edge of Warwick have taken a step forward.

Plans show the developer wants to develop the 17.5 hectare plot along the A46 and near Warwick Parkway station.

Latest plans to replace historic Warwick cottage which was demolished without permission

Fresh plans to replace a historic Warwick cottage which was demolished without permission have been put forward to Warwick District Council.

The local authority last year said there was "no justification" for flattening Spring Cottage without permission, and threw out a retrospective application which would have permitted the works.

Now Studio Spicer Architects has submitted an application to not only approve of the demolition, but also to build two houses on the Birmingham Road site.

'No evidence' of mould or damp - damning council report after landlord rips out interior of historic Warwick building

There was "no compelling evidence" of mould or damp at a grade II listed Warwick pub before the landlords ripped out all the interior to 'fix' the problem.

That is according to a report from Warwick District Council as it refused a retrospective planning permission for the works at the Market Place unit.

Some 45 locals objected to the application, saying the shelves at the closed pub should be replaced by landlord Cobalt Developments.

Owners 'never gave it a realistic chance' - controversial Warwick pub plans approved

Campaigners lost their battle to save a closed Warwick pub from being turned into a house, but concerns were raised about how hard the owners had tried to reopen it.

Warwick District Council's planning committee granted permission for the Punch Bowl to be turned into a house, bringing an end a long-running planning battle in March 2025.

Secret Properties Ltd has at last been given permission to repurpose the site at The Butts, having already seen a previous application refused.
