Here is a round up of the biggest stories from the news in Warwick this August.

Alongside a host of planning applications, and a number of high profile council decisions, the last four weeks have seen Nub News cover everything from HS2 and fundraisers to local business successes.

Community News

Perhaps the highlight of August in Warwick was the Commonwealth Games cycling road races coming to the town centre, with thousands lining the streets to watch the sporting action.

St Mary's Church has been given another £20,000 for its fundraising campaign.

MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western has praised the 'hero' firefighters who fought a fire at a chemical factory in Leamington a year ago.

A sea eagle which went missing from Warwick Castle was spotted across South Warwickshire before it safely returned home.

The mother of a man who went missing three years ago said she still spends hours searching for him in South Warwickshire after a possible sighting of him near Stratford.

Warwick Classic Car Show returned this August.

The grave of a First World War soldier was rededicated this month.

And with the hot weather continuing a drought has been declared in the area.

Development

Work is underway on nine houses being built alongside the Grand Union Canal in Warwick.

Refurbishments at St Michael's Hospital are well underway with phase one now complete.

And at Warwick Hospital art organisations have come together to renovate one of the stairwells.

A housing developer planning to build houses on land around Warwickshire Police's Leek Wootton headquarters has announced its expansion plans.

A controversial 96-acre solar farm will be built near Wellesbourne.

Work has begun on a new footbridge designed to make walking to two Warwick schools safer.

Warwickshire County Council has released its latest update on the £38million works at the A46 Stoneleigh Island roundabout.

Aldi has released an update on its new store.

Up to 35,000 homes and a new settlement could be included in the new local plan.

And Matt Western has raised concerns about the number of homes being built in the area.

Business news

Specsavers has announced that it will open a store in Warwick this November.

A charity shop has celebrated its tenth anniversary in the town.

Smith's Garden Centre in Baginton has celebrated its 80th anniversary.

A local cleaning company has reported a sharp rise in enquiries following the council's new 123+ waste disposal schedule and recent hot weather. And the town's MP has also criticised Warwick District Council for not buying any electric lorries for the bin collections.

Mr Western has also criticised local water companies for the amount of sewage being dumped into local rivers.
