Here are the biggest planning stories from the last week in and around Warwick.

New Townhouses

Work is well underway on nine new canalside townhouses being built in Warwick.

Planning permission for the 'Emscote Old Wharf' development alongside the Grand Union Canal was granted by Warwick District Council in 2019.

And at the start of June Cotswold Oak Ltd announced that it had begun work on site.

Controversial Village Solar Farm

A solar farm stretching across five fields has been approved by councillors in spite of calls for the land to be retained for agriculture.

The 96-acre site between Wellesbourne and Newbold Pacey will, according to applicants Novus Renewable Services, power around 5,500 homes when up and running and would almost double the biodiversity due to rewilding and planting across the land.

But the plans were opposed by parish and district councillors who told the latest Stratford District Council planning committee that the site was in the wrong place.

Developer's Expansion Plans

A major housing developer currently applying to build 83 homes around Warwickshire Police's Leek Wootton headquarters has relocated to Oxford as it plans to expand in the region.

Cala Cotswolds, formerly known as Cala Midlands, has revealed that it has relocated its head office from Solihull to Oxford Technology Park, as it expands its operating area of Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, and Solihull to include Wiltshire, Vale of White Horse, and the high growth area of Oxfordshire.

In Warwickshire, the Cala Cotswolds team has secured planning permission for almost 900 new homes since 2016, contributing over £7.8million in Section 106 agreements to local councils.

The company is due to open its doors in November, at the former Mellors Pharmacy site at 27 Market Place - with Mellors now located at Priory Medical Centre.

The new store will be part-owned and run by local residents, Lena and Navin Aggarwal, who have nearly 30 years' optical experience between them.
