Aldi has provided an update on its new store at Tachbrook Park Drive which it says is expected to open this autumn.

Planning permission was granted for the larger shop right next to its existing store between Leamington and Warwick last August despite concerns about parking.

The supermarket giants were given permission to demolish the former Mothercare unit to build a contemporary, energy efficient shop expected to be 22 per cent bigger than the previous one.

Unlike other branches, it will be timber clad.

It will also shared a 170-space car park will be shared with the existing Curry's PC World and will incorporate a number of spaces from the supermarket's previous site in the neighbouring Queensway.

An Aldi spokesperson told Nub News: "Construction for our new Tachbrook Drive store is progressing well as we move towards our planned opening date in early autumn.

"This will provide a relocation for our existing store in Leamington Spa, creating additional employment opportunities in the local area, as well as further parking for customers and an improved overall shopping experience."

Aldi has already announced that it is looking for another site in Warwick as a priority location for a new store.

The UK's fifth largest supermarket, which already has more than 960 stores across the UK is offering a 'finder's fee' to members of the public who recommend a site.
