Work has begun on a new footbridge in Warwick which will make it safer for children walking to and from school.
Plans to build the 12 metre bridge spanning Gog Brook were approved in April 2021, and it will be paid for by the safer routes to school fund.
Providing a link between Whitman Way and Shelley Avenue, the bridge will make it safer for children walking to both Aylesford School and Newburgh Primary School.
Put forward by Warwickshire County Council, the prefabricated structure will be four metres wide and will available for cyclists as well as pedestrians.
Built out of timber and steel, it will be supported on concrete blocks and will connect with the existing footpath leading into Chase Meadow.
Labour group leader at WCC Cllr John Holland said: "The bridge is needed for pupils going to Newburgh Primary School in one direction and Aylesford school in the opposite direction.
"It is a much-needed safety measure as the brook can present a real hazard when in flood.
"It will also benefit all local residents as a useful shortcut."
MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western added: "Warwick West Cllr John Holland has led a campaign for the bridge for many years and together we have spoken with concerned residents who have been calling for it.
"Thanks so much to John for all his hard work, in yet another successful scheme to add to his record.
"The bridge will be great for parents and children when it is ready, hopefully, by the end of Autumn."
