Matt Western - election results show residents are 'totally angered' by Tory leadership
Warwick's MP has said he is "over the moon" with Friday's (May 5) election results and said locals have shown they are "totally angered" by the national Conservative leadership.
The Tories lost all but six seats on Warwick District Council, and were also left with only one on Warwick Town Council, with Labour taking control of the latter.
Labour also saw their representatives on the district council increase from five to 11, as the Conservatives lost all their seats in Warwick.
And Labour MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western said the results reflected both national and local issues.
"It is quite clear that the public are totally angered by the last couple of years of the Conservative leadership at the national level," he told Nub News.
"But they are also deeply disappointed at a local level where they have felt disenfranchised and they don't feel they are represented by the Conservative council.
"That has been shown in the ballot box.
"I am over the moon that we have done so well getting such good representation at both Warwick Town Council and Warwick District Council and in Leamington."
Labour took clean sweeps in Aylesford, Saltisford and All Saints and Woodloes wards at the district level.
Meanwhile at the town council the red group took 11 of the 15 seats - having only previously had one.
Mr Western said the results left Labour in a strong position to help local residents going forward.
"One of the biggest issues is the overdevelopment of Warwick district by greedy developers," he added.
"This is something I have been speaking out about in parliament for a number of years.
"We have seen it in particular around South Warwick and Leamington but also in the villages. I am determined that we will put a stop to that."
