Six men are currently under investigation after police found a number of carp hidden in the back of their van, thought to have been illegally fished.

Warwickshire Rural Crime Team, the Environment Agency and the Angling Trust conducted patrols along the River Avon yesterday (May 7) where they found 12 separate incidents of illegal fishing.

At a stop at an unnamed fishery, which is "suffering with repeated issues of theft", they were tipped off by a member of the public about a group of men "acting suspiciously around the lake".

"We located the males a short distance away and conducted a formal stop and search of their vehicle," a police spokesperson said.

"Inside we found a number of freshly caught Carp that the males had tried to conceal in the vehicle.

"Six males are now under investigation for theft and we have subsequently seized hundreds of pounds worth of equipment, along with their van."
