Human remains have been found in a Coventry park in the search for a missing South Warwickshire man, who is believed to have been murdered.

Stefan Watkins – known as Lee or LeeLee – was last seen on 6 May 2023 when he left his home in Warwick during a street party to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

Warwickshire Police has released multiple calls for information in the two years since, but this morning (February 4) confirmed remains have been discovered in Charterhouse Fields.

A force statement said: "Specially trained officers searching for Stefan Watkins have found remains in an area of Coventry.

"The human remains, which were discovered in Charterhouse Fields on Saturday (1 February) afternoon, have been forensically recovered and will be subject to a post-mortem in due course.

"Formal identification has yet to take place, however we have updated Stefan's next of kin and family with this latest development."

Police said Mr Watkins, 48, was spotted at around 1.30am on Sunday 7 May 2023 at the junction of Vauxhall Street and Berry Street in Hillfields, Coventry.

Officers have been searching around the area over the weekend, before finding the remains in the park behind Blue Coat School on Saturday.

Last year the force announced the enquiries had become a murder investigation, and a £20,000 reward was offered for information.

A woman was previously arrested on suspicion of murder as part of the investigation, but was released with no further action.
