Wave of objections to 'barrack-style' homes at former MOD site in Hatton
Some 85 objections have been submitted against plans to turn a former Ministry of Defence (MOD) base into affordable homes.
Altus Homes and Morro Partnerships have applied for planning permission for 34 homes on the piece of land off Oakdene Crescent, Hatton.
But local residents and councillors have been quick to object to the scheme, which includes a mix of one to four-bed homes
Christopher Freeman wrote: "Local roads and infrastructure cannot support anymore houses, cars, people.
"Not to mention the destruction of local countryside."
Meanwhile - among a number of concerns - Rob Smith said the area could not support that many extra houses.
"For the avoidance of doubt, Hatton Station has zero amenities," he explained.
"There are no shops, no medical centres, no public houses, no school's and no community facilities.
"To access such services you would need to walk or drive 1.5 miles to the nearest village shop, public house, or village hall, or drive five miles into Warwick to the nearest supermarket."
In their application, Atlus and Morro said redeveloping the green belt former depot would not have a negative impact on the local area.
This view was not held by Shrewley Parish Council which objected saying: "This site is in the green belt and outside the settlement boundary established in the current WDC local plan.
"It was offered by the landowner but was not included in this plan.
"It is inappropriate development as by definition it is harmful to the green belt.
"It should only be approved in very special circumstances.
"No special circumstances have been identified."
Meanwhile Hatton Parish council raised a number of concerns around infrastructure and the suitability of the former MOD site.
On the design of the homes, the council said: "The best that can be said of the barrack-like style of housing is intended to evoke the military heritage of the site."
