Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.

Plans Pulled

Plans to turn a brand new set of offices in Warwick into flats have been pulled.

Faxton Ltd had applied for planning permission to convert the four offices at Emscote Old Wharf into two-bedroom flats, saying there have been no takers for the units despite two years of marketing.

The All Saints Road offices were built alongside nine townhouses next to the Grand Union Canal, after planning permission to demolish a former car wash on the site was granted in 2019.

Pub Plans

Controversial plans to turn a closed pub along the Grand Union Canal into flats have been given the green light by council planners.

Having already withdrawn a previous application to flatten the Waterside Inn and replace it with a 40-bed apartment building, developer Cresco has been granted planning permission to turn the boozer into eight flats.

The Queensway inn had previously been put on the market with local agent Bromwich Hardy, with a guide price of £2,750,000 following the "universally negative" response to try and secure a new operator to reopen the business.

But the latest bid to repurpose the site - which was backed by Leamington Spa Town Council - has now been signed off by Warwick District Council.

Funeral Directors on the Market

A former funeral directors in Warwick has been put on the market months after planning permission for it to be turned into a house was refused.

Warwick District Council (WDC) threw out the application for the unit on St John's in April, despite the application saying there is no viable commercial future for a business there.

The unit has reportedly been empty since 2018, and was given permission to be turned into a salon in 2021 but the scheme never went ahead.

And now it has appeared on the market with local property agent Wareing and Co described as 'offices to let' for £20,000 per year.
