Warwick planning roundup: £16m mistake, village 'ruined' and paddling pool project
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
£16m Mistake
The deputy leader of Warwickshire County Council has apologised for revealing confidential information on a project dubbed the 'bridge to nowhere' – but he could not spare highways officials a verbal battering.
Cllr Peter Butlin last week let the cat out of the bag over a £16 million-plus fund set aside to cater for cost overruns on a highways project over the A46 at Stoneleigh junction, near Kenilworth.
The much-delayed £38 million project to install a second bridge, meaning a roundabout can be created to increase capacity and road safety, is now overdue by longer than the works were initially supposed to take.
Barford Homes Return
A decision on whether to allow a controversial 34-home development in Barford is expected next week after the discussion was delayed last month.
Kendrick Homes was due to find out last month whether it could press ahead with its development on land south of Westham Lane, only for the decision to be put back by a month to check whether it complies with local environmental rules.
More than 100 objections - including from Barford, Sherbourne and Wasperton Joint Parish Council - have been submitted, with some saying the development will 'ruin' the village.
Paddling Pool Project
Work is set to begin on the refurbishment of the paddling pool in St Nicholas Park, Warwick.
The "much-needed upgrade" will see non-slip surfaces, improved pool surrounds, jets and fountains with free-standing shades, and benches around the outside for parents installed.
Warwick District Council also said the paddling pool at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa will be given a revamp.
