Warwick planning roundup: Local plan, school's new life and care home
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
School's New Life
Fresh plans to turn a former school building in Warwick into homes have been given the green light by Warwick District Council.
Wake Green (Warwick ) Limited recently saw an application to repurpose the King's High School For Girls buildings on Chapel Street for houses refused by the council.
Issues were raised about lack of parking and the impact of amenity on residents, with the previous application also including three new homes to the rear of the site.
Controversial Care Home
Controversial plans to build a major new care home in Hatton look set to get the green light, despite objections from locals.
Planners at Warwick District Council have recommended the 75-bed facility on Birmingham Road be given planning permission, despite a similar application being rejected in 2022.
Belmont Healthcare's updated plans for the site along the Grand Union Canal will now go before the planning committee next week.
Local Plan
Proposed national reforms could require the districts of Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick to find room for 30 per cent more new homes than anticipated.
District councillors from both patches were presented with the stark figures during an update on the emerging South Warwickshire Local Plan (SWLP) with the leading officers of both authorities agreeing that new government proposals threaten to "drive a coach and horses" through the work done so far.
The SWLP will set out how new housing is catered for and plan for where it will go through to 2050, bringing together two areas that currently have their own local plans.
