Controversial plans for 75-bed care home in Hatton look set to go ahead
Controversial plans to build a major new care home in Hatton look set to get the green light, despite objections from locals.
Planners at Warwick District Council have recommended the 75-bed facility on Birmingham Road be given planning permission, despite a similar application being rejected in 2022.
Belmont Healthcare's updated plans for the site along the Grand Union Canal will now go before the planning committee next week.
"The applicants have provided significantly improved supporting information since the refusal of the [previous] scheme…and officers are now satisfied that the development is acceptable," a council report said.
"Whilst identified as inappropriate development within the green belt, officers are satisfied that the applicants have provided sufficient justification to demonstrate very special circumstances.
"In addition, these circumstances also amount to public benefits that outweigh the harm to heritage assets."
Recent correspondence between Belmont and the council showed the developer's view that there is no other alternative site for the development.
If approved, the three-storey facility will be built in a 't' shape and will include a treatment room and hair salon as well as 75 rooms.
The proposal also includes works to the access from the Hatton Park roundabout and a new footpath linking into the canal towpath from the footpath on the Birmingham Road.
Objections have been received from 12 members of the public as well as both Hatton and Budbrooke Parish Councils.
Both councils said the designs would be out of place with the local area and would impact the canal conservation area.
