Warwick planning roundup: Costa, pub's new life and £3.75m roundabout works
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Drive Thru
A new Costa Coffee drive thru unit could be built in Warwick if plans are signed off by the district council.
Warwick 27a Ltd has submitted a planning application for the new business on Haywood Road, next to Warwick Cemetery.
Plans show the site would have 19 parking spaces, an external seating area as well as the drive thru lane.
Pub Plans
Controversial plans to turn a closed pub along the Grand Union Canal into flats have been given the green light by council planners.
Having already withdrawn a previous application to flatten the Waterside Inn and replace it with a 40-bed apartment building, developer Cresco has been granted planning permission to turn the boozer into eight flats.
The Queensway inn had previously been put on the market with local agent Bromwich Hardy, with a guide price of £2,750,000 following the "universally negative" response to try and secure a new operator to reopen the business.
But the latest bid to repurpose the site - which was backed by Leamington Spa Town Council - has now been signed off by Warwick District Council.
Roundabout Works
Top councillors have signed off £3.7 million for works around the Gallows Hill roundabout between Warwick and Leamington.
The project - at the roundabout of the Europa Way, Gallows Hill, Harbury Lane and Heathcote Lane - is needed to help support the 900 new homes, primary school, community centre and 500 vehicle park and ride being built at the Asps.
Money for the works has been gathered through section 278 schemes - legal requirements on developers which stipulate they must help finance infrastructure works necessary for the estate.
