A new Costa Coffee drive thru unit could be built in Warwick if plans are signed off by the district council.

Warwick 27a Ltd has submitted a planning application for the new business on Haywood Road, next to Warwick Cemetery.

Plans show the site would have 19 parking spaces, an external seating area as well as the drive thru lane.

"The site is in a sustainable location, and is an acceptable distance from both the town centre and the highway," the application to Warwick District Council said.

"It contributes to the local economy by offering a unique service in an urban area, whilst also providing local employment opportunities."

Plans also show some 19 trees would need to be removed for the coffee shop to be built.

The application added: "The design strives to balance many factors of planning policy, site constraints, operator requirements and to bring a development in a sustainable way to this site.

"The design seeks secure and enhanced key aspects of ecology, sustainability, generating employment and accessibility.

"The need for retail frontage has been balanced within the site to maintain the open character on approach and provides screening and Landscaping to the urban frontage of the junction."

A large number of objections from local residents has already been submitted.
