'Step through the ticking clock' with Warwick theatre's adaptation of Tom's Midnight Garden
By Nadia Sayed 21st May 2026
A Warwick theatre is inviting audiences to "step through the ticking clock" and into Tom's Midnight Garden, David Wood's acclaimed stage adaptation of Philippa Pearce's beloved Carnegie Medal-winning novel.
When Tom is sent away to stay with his aunt and uncle, boredom and loneliness seem certain. But at the stroke of midnight, an extraordinary world opens. In a secret garden that should not exist, Tom meets Hatty — and together they discover that friendship, memory, and wonder can cross the boundaries of time itself.
Brought to life by a cast of 45 young Playbox actors aged nine to 19, this production fills the stage with dynamic physicality, ensemble storytelling, and rich visual imagination. From moonlit chases to snow-filled summers, the garden transforms before your eyes as Tom's journey unfolds.
Exploring time, memory, and the power of friendship across the years, Tom's Midnight Garden is perfect summer family entertainment — thrilling for children, moving for adults, and magical for anyone who has ever longed for a place where the past feels present.
This is a story about what it means to be remembered. Our young company has taken David Wood's beautiful adaptation and made it breathe with energy, heart and invention. It's a show where you'll laugh, gasp, and maybe check your own clock twice on the way home.
Director by Mary King, Founding and Executive Director of Playbox Theatre, Tom's Midnight Garden will run Warwick from Thursday 4 June to Sunday 7 June 2026.
Tickets are from £8 and can be bought at the Box Office by calling 01926 419555 or online.
