Popular Warwick pub reopens following major renovation
A popular Warwick pub has reopened following a major renovation, which was all completed within a matter of days.
A completely remodelled bar, new cool room and a wider range of stock were all unveiled at the Old Post Office last Friday (November 10), when it welcomed customers back after the five-day makeover.
Having been taken over by husband and wife team Rachel Silverthorne and Tim Maccabee in April, the West Street venue shut its doors on the Monday before to get the project underway.
And while the CAMRA Good Beer Guide-recommended pub opened for customers again at 5pm on Friday, the team were still busy putting the finishing touches on the renovations while the first drinks were being enjoyed.
"We had a lot of locals out on Friday night," Tim - who also owns The Eagle with Rachel - told Nub News.
"We had told people we were hoping to be open - although there was that element of doubt. But we managed to get there!
"There was a good turn out at 5pm, and even though we weren't quite ready for them, we just let them in and carried on, working around them and tidying up.
"It was a busy night, a fun night and there were a lot of nice comments."
As well as completely ripping out the old bar to install a new one, the Old Post Office has also seen the number of cask ale taps increase from four to five, and an extra keg line added.
Tim said the layout previously had been quite difficult to manage, and with the new cool room they have made space to increase the stock of other drinks alongside the beer.
"The beer will be kept even better now, with the new system," he explained.
"People who bring their loved one in who doesn't want to drink beer, or even if they don't want to on occasion, they can have a drink of a different sort - non-alcoholic or otherwise.
"We have expanded the appeal, making it an easier place for people to come, and a lot of people have welcomed that."
Alongside the monthly charity quizzes, customers will also soon be able to enjoy regular live music on Saturdays - and the pub is soon to start selling traditional bread rolls.
And asked whether he would do it all again within the space of a week next time, he said: "With all of these things, if you give yourselves two weeks, you'll still be up against it on the deadline at the end of it.
"It was do-able in the week.
"But customers don't want you to be shut for weeks on end, so the quicker you can get things done, the better."
