A new cellar bar has opened in the centre of Warwick, inspired by the memory of the owner's late son.
Tim Maccabee opened the Eagle Bar at the end of April following a complete refit of The Holloway venue.
Formally known as Rigsby's Cellar Bar, the unit has reopened with a fresh new look, created by partner Rachel Silverthorne and local businessman, Richard Heath from Regent Framing in Leamington.
And Tim explained that the name was in memory of his son, Tom, who was killed in a car crash in 2014.
"He had a tattoo of an eagle on his shoulder and so the name is in honour and memory of Tom," he said.
"The eagle that sits on the podium in the bar is a close approximation of what his tattoo was like, and the logo is a tattoo artist's recreation of what he had."
Formerly the managing director of Ducati UK, running The Eagle is a huge change in profession for 57-year-old Tim.
Whilst he admitted he had "done a lot of research from the other side of the bar" this is his first time managing things from behind it.
"So this is a complete departure but something which I have had an eye on," he added.
"It is certainly not a retirement, because it is very involved work, but it was something that I have had in my mind for a long time.
"The opportunity came up and we have grasped it with both hands."
As well as a range of spirits and wines, the bar now has nine taps (including three cask ales) which will have different beers and ciders rotated across them.
And as well as thanking Inn Express, Shepherd Neame Brewery and former owner Tom Douglas for their help in getting the bar off the ground, he also pointed to the support of other venues across the town.
"The community of Warwick and the community of Warwick bar owners has been really great," he said.
"People helping each other seems to be a real feature of Warwick.
"It is a great thing to see across Warwick that people are happy to promote other venues.
"I think that because we have a thriving community it is better for customers than if it were just one or two venues. If you have a lot of thriving businesses people will make the trip to come to Warwick and together with the other businesses in the town, we're happy to see them."
