Planners block scheme for new home in Warwick garden
By James Smith 27th Mar 2026
Council planners have thrown out an application for a new house which would have been built in the garden of an existing Warwick home.
H & M Construction had applied for planning permission for the three-bedroom home on Shelley Avenue.
But Warwick District Council has this week refused to grant planning permission.
Rejecting the application, a council report said: "The proposal would not reinforce or harmonise with the established character of the streetscene, with the proposal introducing a detached dwelling in a street scene that is characterised by semi-detached dwellings."
It continued: "The proposal would introduce a detached dwelling book ended by two semi-detached properties, in conflict with the symmetry created by the mirroring effect of the opposite properties on the road intersection.
"The introduction of an additional property within this location is therefore considered to amount to an incongruous feature in the street scene."
In its application to the council, H & M said the house would have maintained the "surrounding characteristics of the area".
