A man has been arrested for assaulting a police officer after the protests in Warwick earlier this month.

Anti-migrant protestors and counter-protestors gathered in Market Place for several hours on Saturday 7 February.

Warwickshire Police initially said no arrests had been made.

Today (February 16) the force has confirmed a 26-year old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and a section 5 public order offence with the help of Merseyside Police.

He has been bailed pending further investigation, with conditions not to enter Warwickshire.

Merseyside Police carried out the arrest on the afternoon of Saturday 14 February.
