Councillors will next week decide whether to allow three new homes to be built next to a village cricket club.

Pathfinder Estates (Midlands) Ltd has applied for planning permission to demolish some existing properties on the land at Wolverton Road in Norton Lindsey, to make way for a new house and two new bungalows.

The scheme also includes extensions to 'Cotswold House' which also sits on the plot.

The application to Warwick District Council is almost identical to one which was refused by the council and then dismissed on appeal last year.

When the previous plans were blocked, a planning inspector said there was a risk to future occupants of being hit by cricket balls from the neighbouring Norton Lindsey and Wolverton Cricket Club.

In the latest application to the council, Pathfinder Estates has said the current occupants of the site have lived there since 1974 and have never had an incident.

Despite this, the refreshed plans include provision for a large cricket net to protect the homes.

Norton Lindsey Parish Council has objected to the scheme saying it would have a "harmful impact on the streetscene".

But planning officers have said it should be approved.

A council report said: "The proposed development is considered to represent appropriate development in the green belt, as was established by the previous appeal at the application site.

"The proposed development is considered to have an acceptable impact upon the character and appearance of the area, with the proposal considered to have an acceptable impact upon neighbouring amenity and the amenity of future occupiers, with Sport England having no objection to the scheme subject to the imposition of the mitigation measures that were set out within the submitted cricket ball strike assessment.

"The proposal is considered to also be acceptable from a parking, highway safety, ecological and arboricultural perspective."

Councillors will make a decision on the application at Wednesday's (October 14) planning committee meeting.
