Council planners have given the green light to detailed plans for 245 new homes in Warwick.

Bloor Homes has been given the go-ahead for the next phase of The Asps development which will eventually see 900 homes, a primary school and park and ride with up to 500 spaces built.

Having already started selling its first set of properties on the site between Europa Way and Banbury Road, the developer has now seen its reserved matters application approved by Warwick District Council for the rest of its tranche of houses.

Developer Taylor Wimpey was last month given approval for its detailed plans for 179 more homes on the site.

Bloor's application includes 77 affordable homes - which at 31 per cent is below the required percentage (40 per cent) of the district council.

However, the developer argued it had provided well above this figure in the first phase of the development.

Bloor said the Asps development will "deliver a new garden suburb to the historic town of Warwick".

The application said: "The development will provide a vibrant, sustainable, healthy and community focused new neighbourhood in which people will aspire to live."

It adds: "Streetscenes have been designed to appear relatively formal in character with shallower front gardens and convenient parking arrangements to serve each property."

Trees will be planted along the streets and on the verges.

The homes include single, two, and two and a half storey properties.

The overall 900-house development was initially refused by Warwick District Council's planning committee in 2014 but was eventually given the go ahead by the Secretary of State two years later.

Whilst the council received the government's decision with "deep rooted disappointment" it has already granted permission for 476 houses in the first part of the development.

Phase two of the development has been split across the two housing developers.
