Lord Leycester Smart Talk - February

Topic: 'Warwick almshouses after the reformation: The Lord Leycester Hospital in context'

Date: Thursday 20th February 2025

Time: 6pm - 8pm

Price: £30.00 (includes the presentation, a light supper, free drink)

Dr Angela Nicholls is a historian and former social worker who studies welfare provision in the early modern period in England.

This talk will reveal that there were other almshouses in Warwick around the time of the Lord Leycester's founding, some still surviving today. Angela will discuss what we know about these almshouses, including who lived in them, and in what ways they might have differed from the Lord Leycester.

Angela's book on Almshouses in Early Modern England was published in 2017, and she was subsequently involved in researching and writing 'Masters and Brethren: the 450 year history of the Lord Leycester Hospital Warwick told through the stories of its people'. This was published in 2021 to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the founding of the Lord Leycester.
