Warwickshire Police took part in the Andy Cox Challenge on Wednesday (May 18) to raise road safety awareness and much needed funding for road crash victims.

The event saw fundraisers set off from Warwickshire Police's headquarters in Leek Wootton and cycle or run to the bases of Warwickshire County Council, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Warwickshire, and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Warwickshire was not the only county taking part. The high-profile event, led by road safety campaigner Det Chief Supt Andy Cox, saw police officers and staff from across the UK run, cycle or walk across their force area.

Participants are now asking the public to donate to RoadPeace – a UK road crash victim charity - via their Just Giving page.

The nationwide event has already raised over £60,000.

It's not just about raising money however, it is hoped the challenge will amplify victims' voices and get people talking about road safety.

DCC Alex Franklin-Smith said: "The number of people who needlessly die on our roads every year is simply not acceptable.  

"That's why we are supporting the Andy Cox Challenge to show our commitment to reducing casualties on Warwickshire's roads and why we will continue to target those drivers who choose to put themselves and others at risk by speeding, drink or drug driving, using a handheld mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt."
