Warwick's MP 'saddened' as constituency looks set to get smaller
Warwick's MP says he is "saddened" by the final recommendations to make his constituency smaller ahead of the next general election.
An independent commission has worked over the past two and a half years to redraw constituencies across the country, to make sure there are similar numbers of voters in each.
Final recommendations have now been published and look set to be approved without a vote by MP's.
Proposals would see Warwick and Leamington lose voters in many villages to the west of the area, including Hatton, Hampton Magna, Hampton-on-the-Hill, Budbrooke, Barford, Wasperton, Sherbourne and Norton Lindsey.
These villages will move to the Kenilworth and Southam constituency - which will now completely surround Warwick and Leamington.
The constituency will however take in Hunningham, Offchurch, Eathorpe, Weston-under-Wetherley and Wappenbury.
Following the publication of the results, Labour MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western said: "I'll be really saddened to lose the communities that come under Budbrooke Ward.
"I've been proud to represent residents and support them in issues they've raised, most notably that of the Barford quarry which I have stood alongside residents as we've campaigned against it.
"Please be assured that I remain your MP and will represent you until the next general election, whenever it is called.
"I look forward to welcoming some new communities into our constituency, meeting those who live there and learning about the issues that matter to them."
