Warwick's Autumn Harvest Festival, which was due to be held this Sunday (September 18), has been cancelled.

Organiser CJ's Events Warwickshire has cancelled the event as a mark of respect during the national period of mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The company took the decision to cancel the festival last Friday as events up and down the nation were pulled.

CJ's informed traders and entertainment acts that it would not go ahead last weekend.

While they have since been told that the event could take place they said "it would be impossible to get all these services re-booked and pulled back together".

A statement from CJ's said: "There are several reasons why our markets have been cancelled.

"Firstly, to mark our respect, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II reigned for 70 years. She has devoted her life to this country, so it's only fair to pause and take time to reflect on her life.

"Secondly, some of our market sites are being used by local authorities for flower laying; therefore, we cannot host specific markets. We have looked at re-locating these, but it's simply not viable.

"Whilst we appreciate this is not ideal, these are unprecedented times.

"These decisions are not taken lightly, and local authorities are always consulted, so they are aware of our choices, and their feedback/advice is always taken on board.

"Every organisation will have different ways they deal with their business operations over this period, and we are doing what we feel is right for our team and business, in addition to taking on board the needs and expectations of our local authorities and communities."

Having been cancelled last weekend, Warwick Market will return at full capacity to Market Place this Saturday (September 17) between 9am and 3pm.

Traders and the market manager will wear black clothes and black ribbons will be provided.

There will also be a two minutes silence at 12 noon.
