A Warwick pub has seen off competition from thousands of other local venues to be named the Midlands 'Traditional Pub of the Year' for 2024.

The Cape of Good Hope snapped up the prize last week at the seventh annual Midlands Food, Drink & Hospitality Awards.

The independent inn was the only local business to claim a prize, across 29 different categories.

Based on Lower Cape, it was one of ten pubs to be shortlisted in the category - most of which were based in Birmingham.

After receiving the award last week, the pub said: "We did it!

"So proud to announce that we have been voted the Best Traditional pub in the whole of the Midlands!

"Thank you to all our loyal customers and dedicated staff for making this possible."

Known locally as 'The Cape', the canalside boozer has been owned by Steve Jury for 27 years, who brings a lifetime of industry knowledge with his wife Emma Jury.

The 18th century building is no stranger to accolades and has featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide on 25 occasions.

With two bars and a large outdoor area adjacent to the canal-lock - plus six hand pulls on offer - the pub was also one of a number recently included in the new 'Warwick Pub Walk'.

Last week's hospitality awards honoured everything from outstanding team achievements to rising stars in the Midlands.

Other categories ranged from Chef of the Year and Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year to Food/Drink Festival of the Year and Cocktail Bar of the Year.

The event also supported Acorns Children's Hospice.

Anita Chumber, Co-Founder of the Awards, said: "A massive congratulations to all the incredible winners of the Midlands Food, Drink, and Hospitality Awards 2024, where we rolled out the red carpet to honour the very best in the industry.

"These 29 outstanding businesses and individuals have truly showcased the vibrant and diverse culinary landscape of the Midlands, where their exceptional achievements have not only elevated the region's hospitality industry but also created memorable experiences for all."
