Warwick has been voted as the fifth best place to live in Warwickshire by residents.

Award-winning lifestyle site Muddy Stilettos had shortlisted the Top 200 best places to live outside London in 2022.

The website called on residents to get behind their towns and vote for them in the regional competitions.

Henley-in-Arden came out on top in Warwickshire and was entered into the national final to find the "loveliest" place to live outside London.

Leamington Spa came second in the county, followed by Kenilworth.

Strangely Meriden and Styvechale were also included in the Warwickshire category - despite not being in the county – and actually placed above the Cotswold village of Ilmington.

Describing Warwick Muddy Stilletos said: "This popular market town has a calendar of vibrant community events from an annual food festival to town centre cycle races, Tom Kerridge's Pub in the Park, Warwick Words and an international folk festival.

"A great location in the heart of the country for everyone from city commuters to families, gaming artists, culture vultures and academics."

And under 'best kept secret' it added: "Actress Sophie Turner – Sansa Stark in the HBO hit TV series Game of Thrones and in XMen: Dark Phoenix – was a pupil at King's High, Warwick and a member of the town's Playbox Theatre – where she's still an official ambassador."

In the national awards Godalming in Surrey took the top spot, followed by Hitchin and Sevenoaks.

Warwickshire results:

1.    Henley-in-Arden

2.    Leamington Spa

3.    Kenilworth

4.    Stratford-Upon-Avon

5.    Warwick

6.    Styvechale

7.    Meriden

8.    Ilmington
