Tree planted to commemorate 50 years of Carols at the Castle
A tree has been planted at Warwick Castle to commemorate 50 years of its annual Christmas concert.
Warwick Castle carols committee arranged for the planting of the English oak tree on Pageant Field last week to celebrate the major milestone of Carols at the Castle.
Last year's concert in December was attended by over 3,000 people and ended with a spectacular firework show from the towers and ramparts.
The event is organised by Warwick Lions, Rotary Club of Warwick, the choirs of St Mary's Collegiate Church, Royal Spa Brass and Warwick Castle.
Over the last half century, tens of thousands of pounds has been raised for local charities and good causes.
Warwick Castle hosted the first concert in the courtyard in 1972 when it was owned by David Greville, Lord Brooke.
Merlin Entertainments continue to support the popular community event. It has grown in popularity and is now a firm favourite in the Christmas schedule, with Annie Othen presenting and sponsorship from local organisations and companies.
The tree was donated by Warwick Castle and was planted by Mayor of Warwick, Cllr Parminder Singh Birdi.
This year's concert will be held on Saturday December 16 2023.
