Plans to open a new tattoo studio in Warwick have taken a step forward after council planners said it did not need planning permission.

Applicant Michael Tse asked Warwick District Council (WDC) for a 'change of use' at the former restaurant on High Street in October, as he looked to repurpose the former home of Tasca Dali into a studio.

Plans show there will be no physical changes to the outside of the grade II listed building, but there will be changes internally.

The application to WDC shows the former restaurant seating area will be turned into the main studio, while the kitchen to the rear would become a waiting room.

"No external or internal structural changes are proposed, and the historical and architectural significance of the building will be preserved," the application explained.

"Given the nature of the proposed change of use and the absence of any physical works to the building, the impact on the listed building and the Warwick conservation area will be negligible."

Tasca Dali moved to Market Square earlier this summer after ten years on High Street, with the new location already proving a hit with locals.

The application for the former High Street base will also see the two-bed flat above the commercial space retained.

Warwick Town Council submitted a notice of support.

"The town council supports this change of use application in that it enables continued use of the property as a commercial unit and is of economic benefit to the town centre area," it wrote.

And on Monday (December 2) a decision notice from WDC said planning permission is not required for the change of use to go ahead.
