Sport England has pledged its support to a local boxing gym which is raising money to move to bigger premises.

Cleary's Boxing Gym has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise the £20,000 it needs to move to the former Whitnash Community Hall.

A new floor, disability access washrooms and secure bicycle storage will all be built at the centre with the money.

The club, which has now raised nearly £21,000 already has been boosted by a £7,000 grant from Sport England's Places and Spaces fund.

A letter to Matt Western MP from the national body said: "The team at Cleary's Boxing Gym submitted their application with a strong campaign page but we felt that there were a few areas that would benefit from further development.

"We have offered some bespoke feedback and asked a local colleague to further support the club.

"We monitored their changes and I can now confirm we will be supporting the club with a conditional pledge of £7,000."

Mr Western described the letter as a "very welcome response" and said: "Cleary's Gym will be a fantastic sporting amenity in Whitnash and is doing great work locally."
