A local boxing gym has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help finance its move to a bigger premises.

Cleary's Boxing Gym is aiming to raise £20,000 as it eyes a move to the site of the former Whitnash Community Hall.

The money raised will be spent on a new floor, disability access wash rooms and the clearing of the outside rear of the building, making way for secure bicycle storage.

The club said: "Through offering more access to ability level sessions which are tailored towards either health, participation or performance meeting the individual needs of each of our members.

"Our new location is easier to access by foot, bike, car and bus.

"We want to champion opportunities to participate in sport.

"Through a facility which can physically cater for larger numbers across multiple demographics, we will continue to attract, celebrate and facilitate participation at any level for all of our members."

The non-profit gym has trained a number of local stars including Commonwealth Games gold medalist Lewis Williams.

The move has also been backed by MP for Warwick and Leamington Matt Western.

Mr Western said the gym's owner Edwin Cleary is a "dedicated professional and inspirational mentor".

"He's done so much for the young people in our area," he added.

"Boxing is a great sport for self-improvement, discipline, fitness and strength.

"To anybody still finding themselves and looking for a sport or hobby to commit to, I recommend visiting Edwin at the gym to learn the tricks of the trade. Thanks Edwin and those at the gym for all you do."

So far, the gym has raised nearly £4,000 towards its target.
