Council planners have given the go-ahead for a grade II listed Warwick building to be turned into a wedding and events venue.

Planning permission has been granted for RHG Manor Ltd to change the ground floor of Longbridge Manor from offices to a hospitality space.

Plans state the building - which was most recently used as a corporate headquarters - would cater for up to 110 guests at a time.

Submitted earlier this year, the application came after no buyer could be found for the building after it was on the market as offices for 18 months.

The scheme was approved by Warwick District Council at the start of September.

A council report said: "It is the officer's view that the proposed use as a wedding and events venue is an appropriate use of the heritage asset.

"The property's grand nature, historical significance, picturesque grounds, and grand entranceway are conducive to the spectacle and grandeur expected of the proposed wedding use.

"It is considered more likely that such a use would more favourably preserve the heritage asset as the retention of its significance and quality would be directly aligned with the proposed use."

Four rooms at Longbridge Manor will be made available for weddings, one with up to 110 seats, and the other three ranging from 24 to 28 seats.

RHG said the venue would also host charity events and private functions.

"The proposal seeks to secure an appropriate and economically viable use for part of an important heritage asset in a manner that responds positively to the character of the building and its setting," the application stated.

"The proposed wedding/civil ceremonies and events use is considered particularly well suited to the form, appearance and historic qualities of the Manor House and will support its long-term active occupation and maintenance."

The application continued: "A wedding and events venue supports direct employment as well as indirect spending through catering, accommodation, transport, floristry, photography, event management and wider visitor expenditure.

"The proposal should therefore be viewed as a change in the nature of economic activity on the site rather than its removal."
