Here are our top picks for the coming days:
1. 80th VJ Day (Victory over Japan) commemorations
Warwick District will unite with towns and cities nationwide on Friday, 15 August 2025, to honour the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, Victory over Japan, marking the conclusion of World War II.
As part of the commemorative events, a special commemorative flag will be raised at the Town Hall in Leamington by the Chairman of Warwick District Council, Cllr Naveen Tangri, with local mayors and representatives from the Royal British Legion, on Friday 15 August at 9.30am.
Cllr Naveen Tangri said: "It is a privilege to be part of Warwick District's VJ Day 80th anniversary celebrations, commemorating the end of World War II and acknowledging the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought so hard for our freedoms."
Warwick, St Mary's Church is also set to host a special bellringing tribute to honour those who served in the Far East, on Friday 15 August, at 6.30pm.
The bellringing tribute will give individuals a chance to see and hear the bells rung full circle in the traditional English style, just as they were rung 80 years ago to celebrate peace.

2. Warwickshire Pride
Warwickshire Pride Festival returns this weekend (16 August), a "bigger and better" one, according to the charity's Chair.
The festival will take place in nearby Leamington Spa on Saturday, at 11 am, with a Pride March through the town, followed by the main celebration at the Pump Room Gardens, until 6pm.
Attendees can look forward to around 120 stalls, a wide variety of food and drink vendors, live performances, and even a dog show.
Chair and founder of Warwickshire Pride, Daniel Browne, told Nub News: "We've got lots going on this year.
"I think it's a really good event, first and foremost, being a protest and highlighting why we have Pride.
"Warwickshire Pride is rooted in the origins of the Pride movement.
"Yes, it is a celebration – come and enjoy yourself – but let's also remember why we're here and why we're doing this."
