Warwick's weekend market will be moved from Saturday (December 21) to Monday (December 23) due to the strong winds forecast this weekend.

The latest Met Office forecast predicts gusts of up to 42mph on Saturday and 48mph on Sunday.

CJ's Events Warwickshire has confirmed the Saturday market cannot take place and said the decision "was made with heavy hearts" as the company understands the "significant impact it will have on our traders, especially during the crucial run-up to Christmas".

"These conditions pose serious risks to the stability of market stalls and could result in damage to traders' products, creating further financial and logistical challenges," the company said.

"After extensive discussions and risk assessments, it was determined that proceeding with the markets would be unsafe and impractical. The safety of our traders, customers, and team is our highest priority, and we cannot compromise on that commitment.

"We deeply value the time, effort, and resources our traders put into preparing for these events. Cancelling a market, particularly during the festive season, is never a decision we take lightly. However, under the current weather conditions, it is the only responsible option."

Warwick District Council has granted permission for a replacement market to be held on Monday 23 December in Market Square.

This special market will run from 9am to 3pm and "offers a final opportunity to support our local traders before Christmas".

The statement added; "We strongly encourage the public to come along and show their support for these dedicated traders by attending Monday's market. For those unable to visit in person, many traders also offer the option to shop online through their social media platforms and websites.

"Thank you for your understanding and continued support during this challenging time. We look forward to seeing you at Monday's market as we come together to celebrate the resilience and dedication of our local trading community."
