Scaffolding removed as repair works on historic Warwick bridge near completion

Works on Castle Bridge in Warwick are nearly finished, Warwickshire County Council has confirmed.
Engineers have been on site on the A425 for months, carrying out a series of repair works including masonry repairs to the elevations, underside and balustrade.
Scaffolding on site has recently been removed as have the traffic lights on the Myton Road end.

"The majority of the repair and restoration work on the east elevation stonework has now been successfully completed," the council's update said.
"As a result, the scaffolding on that side has been fully dismantled, and the east footpath is once again open to the public.
"The temporary pedestrian crossing that was in place during the works has also been removed, restoring normal pedestrian access."
The rest of the repairs will continue over the coming weeks.

The bridge will need to be resurfaced, with this expected to take place overnight in early October.
Construction of the grade II listed bridge first began in 1789 and was opened four years later.
Works on the bridge hit the headlines earlier this year when Warwickshire Police released a public appeal after scaffolding was thrown off the bridge, damaging the boats below.
