Road closure details have been announced as Warwick Mop Fair returns for 2023.

The annual event, which is said to date back to the reign of Edward III, is hosted on the Friday and Saturday following the 12 of October, with the 'Runaway Mop' held the following Friday and Saturday.

Run on October 13, 14, 20 and 21 this year, the fair will take over Market Place and the rest of the town centre as stalls and a fun fayre descend on the town.

The mop will be opened by the Mayor of Warwick and the Town Crier at 12noon on Saturday 14.

Warwick District Council has confirmed road closures will be in place from 4.45pm on Thursday 12 October until 12pm on Sunday 15 October.

They will then again from 4.45pm on Thursday 19 October to 12pm on Sunday 22 October for the Runaway Mop.

The following roads will be closed during those times:

• Brook Street
• Market Place
• Market Street – except for egress from the bus station and car park
• New Bridge
• New Street
• Old Square
• Puckering’s Lane – except for egress to the bus station and car park
• Swan Street
• The Holloway

Hampton Road car park will be closed to all vehicles including camper vans from 10am on Sunday 8 October to 12pm on Sunday 22 October 2023.

Permit holders will be able to park in near by Bread and Meat Close car park and also Vittle Close car park.

New Street car park will be closed from 4.45pm on Thursday 12 October to 12pm on Sunday 15 October, then again from 4.45pm on Thursday 19 October to 12pm on Sunday 22 October.
