A heritage diesel-hauled special is set to head through Warwick this weekend on its way to the south coast.

The Cathedrals Express will stop at Warwick Parkway on Saturday (18 July) as it makes the journey from Birmingham Snow Hill To Portsmouth.

Run by Vintage Trains, the excursion will also stop at Widney Manor, Banbury, Oxford and Didcot Parkway.

The Cathedrals Express will be hauled by a pair of diesels - Class 37 37240 and Class 47 47773.

It will stop at Warwick at 8.22am on Saturday morning, returning at 8.42pm on the return journey.

Organisers said: "Join us for a delightful summer Saturday journey down to the south coast of England and the historic Cathedral and Port city of Portsmouth.

"Located in the Solent, the city has a rich history dating back to the Romans and has for centuries contained a significant Royal Naval dockyard.

"Whether you want a day trip to the seaside, explore the rich maritime history of the city or take a trip up Spinnaker Tower to experience awe-inspiring 23-mile views over Portsmouth, there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy."
