Decision expected on new speed hump for busy Warwick road
By James Smith 14th Jul 2026
The councillor in charge of Warwickshire's roads will this week decide on whether a new speed hump is needed in Warwick.
Plans for the new island on West Street are set to be discussed on Friday (July 17) following a public consultation.
Locals were asked about the scheme near Warwick Castle at the end of 2025, with the hump proposed between the junctions with Warwick Castle Drive and Tudor Court.
The hump would also see the existing 'pedestrian refuge' in the middle of the carriageway removed and replaced.
"Warwickshire County Council is proposing to introduce a full width road hump with an upgraded central refuge in West Street, Warwick," a council report said.
"The scheme is intended to improve the environment for all road users by restricting vehicle speeds and improving road safety, as well as providing a step-free informal crossing point at a natural desire line for pedestrians heading towards Warwick Castle."
Just one objection was received to the scheme, which claimed "vehicles don't speed at this point".
In response, a council report said: "The proposed road hump is intended as an additional road safety feature to reduce vehicle speeds at a location which forms a natural desire line for pedestrians around Warwick Castle."
The scheme has been backed by local councillor John Holland.
A decision will be made by portfolio holder for transport and planning, Cllr Stephen Shaw, on Friday.
