An 'impressive' 91-metre retaining wall has been installed as part of a major roadworks scheme around Warwick and Leamington Spa.

Roadworks are well underway along the A452 Ford Foundry (Myton Road/Old Warwick Road) and Queensway roundabout where council contractors are working to add a carriageway, install new traffic lights and widen the pedestrian path.

The wall consists of galvanized steel mesh cages filled with approximately 275 cubic metres of crushed limestone, sourced from a local quarry.

Stones measuring between 100-200mm have been meticulously hand-placed along the wall's face, creating an aesthetically pleasing and natural finish.

With varying heights of up to three meters in certain sections, the construction of the wall started in September 2024 and was completed in December 2024.

Cllr Jan Matecki, portfolio holder for transport & planning at Warwickshire County Council said: "This important phase of the A452 Ford Foundry improvement scheme demonstrates Warwickshire County Council's commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure projects for the local community.

"I am delighted the full construction of the wall has now been completed."

Works are expected to be completed in summer 2025 as the council aims to create a "corridor of connected cycling and walking links to help facilitate active travel".
