Plans to build a new two-storey teaching block at Myton School have been revealed.
The Myton Road school said the new block would be built on the current turning circle used for dropping off pupils and could see the school accept 180 more students each year.
The teaching block would include 12 new classrooms, offices, study spaces, and IT room and a cafe with outdoor dining space.
There will also be two much bigger rooms on the first floor that will have retractable partitions to make them into smaller rooms if needed.
Myton School said the block would either be used purely for sixth form students, or to increase the school's capacity.
It said it hopes to have the build completed for September 2023.
"The proposal is to either provide a new sixth-form building to accommodate the existing cohort of 387 students, which is anticipated to increase to 550 over the coming academic years or, to provide additional teaching space to enable the school to accommodate approximately 180 additional students from September 2023 assisting the local authority in providing adequate secondary school places in the local area," the planning report said.
"This will alleviate resource requirements on the existing school buildings, as well as provide additional school places for a growing community in the immediate locality.
"The new building design is based on a simple and efficient footprint, whilst being reflective of the existing school is terms of location, mass, proportion and materials.
"The buildings design and overriding aesthetic provides a sophisticated learning environment for the sixth form students."
A cycle store for 60 bikes would also be knocked down to make space for the building.
