Warwick could soon be getting a new café as plans to turn a former art shop into a coffee shop have been revealed.

Sunrise Coffee (Warwick) LTD has applied for planning permission to install new signs to the unit on Swan Street which was once home to AE Contemporary Art which recently closed after 35 years in town.

Plans show the town centre unit could have simple 'Sunrise Coffee' signage installed, and it has already been painted bright yellow.

"The proposed signage and colour scheme respect the building's proportions and the area's historic character," the application to Warwick District Council said.

"The design [has] maintained the feature column and timber shop front.

"It avoids unrelieved glazing and incorporates traditional features like stall risers and mullions, as advised in the council's guidelines."

The company's website says the site will be a 'Japanese Coffee & Bakery'.

It does not say when the business will open.

"The alterations aim to enhance the shopfront's appearance while preserving the architectural integrity of the conservation area," the application continued.

"By adhering to the council's design advice, the proposal ensures that the shopfront contributes positively to the street's historic character."
