Plans to restore 19 bedrooms at a 100-year-old hotel have been given the green light by district planners.

Mallory Court Hotel has been given planning permission to give a makeover to many of the rooms at the grade II listed house, saying the works are needed to keep the business going.

Warwick District Council has now given consent for bathrooms in many of the rooms to be completely stripped and redesigned.

Some of the bathrooms at the Harbury Lane site can now also be made bigger.

"Layouts of the current rooms are not ergonomic or commercially viable as they are," the application said.

"For the hotel to continue commercially and keep its rating, a full bedroom makeover is required."

Mallory Court describes itself as a "quintessential English country house hotel and spa" and is part of the Eden Hotel Collection of six hotels in the region.

Set in 10 acres of land, the house was first built for James Thomas Holt in 1916 as the businessman looked to retire to Warwickshire.

Approving the plans, a council report said: "Overall, the proposal is considered to result in a neutral impact to the heritage asset, with the works resulting in minor alterations to fabric whilst the special historic and architectural interest of the heritage asset is maintained.

"The proposal is considered to support the optimum viable use of the heritage asset as a hotel, ensuring its continued occupation which offers protection to the building and its fabric overall.

"The proposal is supported by Bishops Tachbrook Parish Council as it will result in improvements for an important local business."

The news comes as Mallory Court donated a hamper full of special gifts for staff at The Myton Hospices as part of its Christmas ‘Giving Back’ campaign.

The hotel donated £10 from every residential package it sold for the Christmas period to create the hamper for hospice staff.

General manager Josefine Blomqvist said: “Our Giving Back campaign is all about supporting good causes and community heroes in our local area – and staff at The Myton Hospices couldn’t be more deserving.

“The Myton Hospices is a charity which really means a lot to some of our staff which is why we have chosen them for our Christmas campaign for the third year running.

“Hopefully these gifts will help to spread Christmas cheer, whilst showing our appreciation to the absolutely fantastic and dedicated team who make such a difference to people and their loved ones at the time they need it the most.”
