A historic Warwick hotel is set for a fresh look inside and out, as plans for new signage have been revealed alongside a wider programme of refurbishment.

An application has been submitted to update the signage at the Warwick Arms Hotel, a Grade II listed building on Warwick High Street.

The late historic landmark, first listed in 1953, is noted for its "ashlar façade, sash windows and classical doorcase".

It also forms part of the Warwick Conservation Area, where strict planning rules protect the town's historic character.

The new proposals for the hotel's exterior include a new double-sided hanging sign, fascia lettering finished in gold leaf, a door plaque, several amenity boards, and the Coaching Inn Group's wheel logo above the windows.

Planning documents state the changes will have: "No negative effect on the character and appearance of the wider Conservation Area and the setting of a property referenced within the Historic Environment Record."

The signage upgrades come as the Warwick Arms undergoes a major transformation, with the Coaching Inn Group investing in new bedrooms, improved bar and dining facilities, and other modernisations designed to enhance the guest experience.

Following its acquisition by the award-winning Coaching Inn Group in July 2025, the group is investing over £1 million to transform the historic property.

The hotel is currently closed and will reopen on Friday 14 November and is taking bookings for stays and dining now.

The bar, lounge, and restaurant areas will also be redesigned with a bespoke style tailored for both hotel guests and local visitors.

Appointed General Manager of The Warwick Arms Hotel following the acquisition, James Brown said: "I'm thrilled to be taking the reins and steering this amazing hotel into a new era.

"This refurbishment marks a huge step forward for this beloved, historic hotel, and it will be a privilege to welcome back our loyal guests and greet new visitors, especially as we head into the festive period."

The full signage application can be viewed online via Warwick District Council's planning portal here.
