The new owners of a luxury Claverdon hotel have put forward their latest planning application as part of a major refurbishment on site.

Ardencote Manor Hotel And Country Club is currently closed while a major makeover takes place following the purchase of the site by hospitality firm Barons Edon.

Planning permission has already been granted by Stratford-on-Avon District Council for a new spa garden, improvements to the lodge and for the "enlargement" of the spa.

If approved, this latest application would see an existing sauna building flattered to make way for a new laundry, plant room and toilets.

"The application forms part of a wider tranche of work involving refits and improvements to the hotel and spa facilities at Ardencote Manor, aimed at improving the guest experience and also upgrading back of house facilities," the application said.

"Permissions have already been granted for a range of other works, comprising the creation of a new biomass facility, improvements and extensions to leisure facilities and the creation of a new spa garden on the site of the existing tennis courts."

The application continued: "The current proposal is of a much smaller scale than these other works - essentially it involves the replacement of a sauna building located on the western side of the outdoor courtyard at the northern end of the building complex with a new laundry facility, plant room (associated with the existing outdoor pool) and creation of new male/female WCs."

The 110-bed Victorian hotel is not expected to reopen until next year.

Barons Edon also owns Hoar Cross Hall in Staffordshire and Eden Hall in Nottinghamshire.

Ardencote was bought last year for an undisclosed fee, but it had previously been marketed by Knight Frank for £13,250,000.

Much of the previous furniture was auctioned last year.
