Local coffee shop owners have expanded their business by opening a new café bakery in Warwick.

Warwick Street Kitchen Bakery opened in Coten End on April 21 after months of renovations.

The venue is the third to be opened by Lydia Papaphilippopoulos-Snape and business partner George Cambridge, adding to their sister sites in Leamington Spa and Birmingham.

Warwick Street Kitchen opened in Leamington in July 2017 before taking over Saint Kitchen in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter in December 2019.

But with their two other shops having been cafés before they took over, the Coten End unit has been their biggest venture to date.

Lydia and George have spent months renovating and giving a new lease of life to the empty unit

"It has been long and weary because it is the biggest project that we have taken on," Lydia said.

"We opened just over two weeks ago and all in all I can say I am incredibly proud of it.

"I am just reminding myself to step back a bit and appreciate how different the space looks and what we have brought to life.

"That building has been empty and unloved for a really long time and we take that responsibility quite seriously in a town as beautiful and historic as Warwick."

Lydia and George opened their first coffee shop with the simple idea of serving great food and great coffee, making everything on site and using local suppliers.

Clearly their business has been a success, having expanded so quickly, but Lydia said they had a slightly different plan for the new Warwick café.

Warwick Street Kitchen was founded on the idea of good coffee and good, freshly made, food

"We had very specific criteria at that point and a very clear idea of what we wanted to do, which was to run a café bakery that could also function as a wholesale bakery," she explained.

"So we took those requirements to local estate agents.

"Then we went and looked at the unit on Coten End and it fit the criteria perfectly."

And just two weeks after opening she said they had already been made to feel at home in the town.

"We obviously have a crossover of customers from our Leamington shop who are thrilled to see the expansion," she added.

"And then there are new customers who have never heard of Warwick Street Kitchen in Leamington and that has been really exciting to reach out to new people as well.

"We are having a great time and all the customers have been lovely!"

Warwick Street Kitchen Bakery is also looking to hire new staff for the bakery, as well as delivery drivers. Anybody interested can contact them at: [email protected]
