Locals are being warned of further disruption around Warwick Hospital over the coming weeks by South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT).

As the major redevelopment work at the Lakin Road hospital continues, the trust has warned of six weeks of disruption as a number of temporary units are moved into place.

"Please be aware, to support the elective hub development, modular units will be regularly delivered to Warwick Hospital for approx. six weeks," a SWFT update said.

"Between five and six deliveries (weekdays only) will arrive via Lakin Road, with banksman assisting the lorries on our site."

It added: "Please be aware of the potential disruption when visiting Warwick Hospital for six weeks.

"The elective hub development will assist us to improve patient experience and increase our surgical capacity."

Locals are already having to contend with roadworks near the hospital as Warwickshire County Council continues works along Coventry Road.

The infrastructure project at Warwick Hospital recently hit a major milestone as the old entrance and surrounding buildings are now completely demolished.

Demolition work started on site in March to make way for the major new development.

The scheme forms phase one of the trust's masterplan to improve facilities at the 474-bed hospital.

A new ground floor reception, plant room and admission suite as well as exterior landscaping will all eventually be built.

Two wards comprising 32 beds will now be relocated into the two levels, providing 40 beds.

The trust has also announced this March that Marks & Spencer and Costa Coffee will open at the Lakin Way hospital once it reopens.

A partnership with One Retail, Compass Group UK & Ireland's retail sector and Noviniti, to "transform" the estate has been announced.

The new entrance, which is due to open early next year, will see new retail offers launched.

In a first of its kind, One Retail will combine two high street favourites at Warwick Hospital.

One of the retail units will offer a hybrid Marks and Spencer and Costa Coffee, bringing "innovative digital screen self-ordering tech" (in addition of traditional tills).
