Major expansion approved for Leek Wootton golf club hotel
A Leek Wootton golf club hotel is set for a major extension after district planners granted permission for it to build 26 new bedrooms.
The Warwickshire Hotel and Country Club has been given the go-ahead for a two-storey extension for new rooms as well as a single-storey extension for a new breakfast room.
The hotel, which already has 56 rooms, an indoor swimming pool and sauna complex, said the expansion was needed to keep up with the demand from customers.
"The hotel is predominantly used by business users during the week and by those enjoying short golfing breaks over the weekend," the application said.
"The accommodation has been a great success, with average occupancy levels typically running at approximately 85 per cent, with there being many occasions where all rooms are fully booked.
"The current proposal seeks to address this unmet demand for additional bedspaces."
The hotel, which also has 36 holes of championship-standard golf course, said the design was in keeping with the current building and was "visually discreet".
But with it being built partly on the car park, 34 spaces will be lost.
Granting permission, a Warwick District Council report said: "It is considered that the proposal would not have a harmful impact on the views of the site from the public right of way or the golf course and as a result would not have an unacceptable impact on the visual openness of the green belt."
The hotel has also applied for permission to extend its driving range.
